Questions homeowners actually ask.
There's no fixed schedule, and the EPA doesn't recommend cleaning on a set interval. Clean when there's a reason: visible mold inside the ducts or on the air handler, evidence of rodents or insects, ducts clogged badly enough that debris comes out of the registers, or after a renovation where the system ran through the dust. The EPA also notes that health benefits from duct cleaning have not been conclusively demonstrated, so we won't claim them. If we inspect and don't find a reason to clean, we'll tell you.
That is almost always a clogged or crushed dryer vent. Lint restricts airflow so heat and moisture cannot escape. We clean it — and if the duct is damaged or badly routed, we repair or re-route it instead of just clearing it.
